Cannes 2026: Film folk say "F-k AI."
AI backlash gains steam. Filmmakers share their fears about the great AI take-over of human creativity; older actresses from Jane Fonda to Demi Moore owned the socials plus what movies to see.
Anthropic chief Dario Amodei, the new deity of artificial intelligence, was a no show at the very private CAA-Graydon Carter party at Hotel du Cap where he was slated to be co-host, according to Vanity Fair.
Amodei, the son of an Italian leather craftsman, has found himself the brand ambassador for ethical AI after a dispute with the White House super charged usage of Anthropic’s AI assistant Claude. As Jeff Bezos sat down to defend his taxes with CNBC, Amodei and his sister Daniela, the company president, spoke to Oprah about how they have engineered their technology to help people improve their lives while avoiding screen addiction. The interview already has more than a million views. This week Anthropic executives head to Rome to meet Pope Leo to help inform the debate around, “the protection of the human person in the age of artificial intelligence.”
It’s beyond time for tech overlords to start explaining themselves as AI rapidly demolishes parts of the creative business and the “lower value human capital.” I chatted to film and TV people across Cannes about their fears and what tools they are embracing tools to make movies cheaper. Here’s what they told me.
