Comcast said last week it is considering spinning off its cable channels into a new entity. It’s clearly time for some drastic action in Cableland as the big tech companies gobble up the money, leaving everyone else huddled like penguins in the Antarctic.
Business executives tend to think in five year increments so it’s logical Comcast is looking for its next best move, tapping Morgan Stanley bankers to help sell through through the options, according to Bloomberg. Comcast shareholder and cable kingpin John Malone revealed to CNBC that talks about the spin began in July at Allen & Co’s Sun Valley.
Meanwhile NBCUniversal’s cable anchors were left to chew the fat on their fate. CNBC’s David Faber told Jim Cramer that the spin-off would potentially include their network and MSNBC but not NBC News, although it seems all things are on the table.
