The producer and co-writer of the 1984 movie “The Terminator” wants to see some forceful regulation of AI.
“I don’t want to become a serf in a techno feudalist, uninhabitable world,” filmmaker Gale Anne Hurd said today on a call convened by concerned activists who want to see more done to regulate the here and now of AI issues.
Hurd, who co-wrote the movie which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a killer cyborg, has been active in discussions about how AI is upending talent relations in Hollywood. She spoke on a press call titled, “The People’s Summit for AI Safety - An Urgent Conversation on AI’s Clear and Present Dangers,” convened by a group of academics and activists who want to see AI used for the public good, and are urging governments to stop hosting cozy sit downs with powerful tech companies who want to set the rules and grade their own homework while keeping expert critics far from the action.
